Why does Humboldt Friends use SMS?
SMS may be used for account setup, account-status messages, safety notices, phone checks, Friends Circle scheduling, and support messages where applicable.
Why does Friends Circle require more review?
Friends Circle includes reviewed features. Added steps such as SMS opt-in, safety confirmations, California ID review, an in-person Friend Interview, and staff review support accountability before those features open.
Can I use Humboldt Friends on desktop?
Desktop browsers can read public information, policies, support, and local details. The member app is phone-first.
Can I join if I live outside Humboldt County?
Humboldt Friends is focused on Humboldt County locals and nearby community life. Support can review edge cases during beta.
What happens if I opt out of SMS?
Some account and Friends Circle features may pause if SMS consent is revoked or SMS status becomes unreachable, especially where SMS is used for safety notices or scheduling.
Are Friends Circle features automatic?
No. Friends Circle access is not automatic and may require SMS status, an in-person Friend Interview, California ID review, member confirmations, and staff review.
Is Humboldt Friends an emergency service?
No. Humboldt Friends is not an emergency service. In an immediate emergency, call 911.
Is Humboldt Friends run by the government?
No. Humboldt Friends is independently operated and is not operated by, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the California Department of Developmental Services, any regional center, Medi-Cal, or the State of California.
